2022 Due Santi Rosso – Dark and brooding in its depth of red color, this wine is almost inky and macerated for a lengthy period to generate this kind of extraction. I like to imagine the pigment being akin to something Caravaggio might have used to create his most iconic images. The nose is rife with classic Italian Amarena cherries, followed by the spicy, herbaceous notes from the young cabernet franc vines. On the palate, the Due Santi is pure silk and grace. One might even forgive one for using the term, smooth to describe this hedonistic Roman elixir. There is a lot to love about this wine, just not many bottles to love. The wine is now stateside and showing very well. While richer and in a new bottle, the wine is unmistakably Due Santi with all the tell-tale signs of our vineyard and fruit. It is a shame we have so little to offer.
